Chemicals and energy company’s large new Clairwood warehouse should be built by December

SAMMAR Logistics has signed a long-term lease agreement with Fortress Real Estate for a new pre-let development of 37 965 sqm in Pocket 2A at the R4 billion Clairwood Logistics Park. The deal is underpinned by Sasol South Africa which identified Clairwood as an attractive location for the consolidation of its warehousing in the Durban South basin.

This is one of the largest logistics deals to be concluded in the region. Construction has commenced and the development is expected to be completed by December 2023.

The project was officially launched at a sod-turning ceremony in November last year, attended by representatives from Sasol and Sammar.

Sammar has operated from Clairwood since the end of 2019 and has benefitted from this world-class facility, 24-hour security, convenient access, and the general environment at Clairwood Logistics Park. The building will be built to Sasol specifications including DM1 floors, 16m height-to-eaves and good circulation.

Head of property development for Fortress Logistics, Jason Cooper, commented: “We are proud to welcome Sammar to our logistics portfolio. Our ability to partner with our clients by understanding their challenges and supporting their growth allows us to tailor a state-of-the-art logistics offering that meets Sammar’s business and service objectives.”

Fortress Real Estate says that the company is enjoying good uptake of its logistics facilities, delivering the lowest vacancies in the history of the company’s logistics portfolio. Modern and safe logistics parks are in demand, with more clients looking to have a robust and localised supply chain. A secure and state-of-the-art logistics park in a key location is highly desirable: it saves time and mitigates the issue of road congestion on smaller less-used routes, and this in turn saves money and hassle.
