WITH fewer than 40 exhibition spaces still available for the North Regional Business Fair, Durban’s eThekwini Municipality has urged businesses who wish to market their products to register before 20 July to book a spot in the expo.

According to the municipality, the North Regional Business Fair, which will take place from 17 to 19 August at KwaMashu’s Bridge City Mall, will create an information sharing platform for both emerging and established businesses to market their products, network and form partnerships with potential consumers.

“The fair gives business owners a powerful platform to meet potential buyers from both the public and corporate sectors as well as to reach out to existing clientele while at the same time building a more reputable brand,” the municipality said in a statement.

The fair will also host a Business Indaba and other seminars which aim to empower and grow businesses through master classes and motivational talks by influential and successful entrepreneurs who will share their experiences, knowledge and best practices in business.

Mayor Zandile Gumede urged businesses to participate in the fair to unlock economic opportunities in townships and previously disadvantaged areas.

“This is an important platform for the City to accelerate the development of the small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) sector. We believe that this sector plays a huge role in reducing the high unemployment rate through creating economic opportunities and contributing to local economic growth,” she said.

This year’s regional business fairs, held in the three regions of the metro, will feature a number of innovative business elements as part of the municipality’s 20-year celebration of the growth and success of the Durban Business Fair programme.

The registration fee for SMMEs to exhibit at the Fair is R200. Forms can be obtained from the Business Support, Tourism and Markets Unit on 199 Anton Lembede (formerly Smith) Street, 7th Floor Embassy Building as well as Sizakala Centres and local ward councillors’ offices. Forms are also accessible on the Municipal website: www.durban.gov.za.

The Business Fair for the South Region will take place on 27 to 29 July at KwaMnyandu Shopping Centre in uMlazi. Entrance to the South Business Fair is free.
