IMPROVAIR Environmental Solutions (IES), specialists in commercial heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), are in the process of completing the HVAC installation for Phase 3 of the Liberty Midlands Mall in Pietermaritzburg.
The Mall, owned by The Liberty Group, is billed as the lifestyle centre of choice in the region for both tenants and shoppers, with this latest Phase 3 extension increasing the floor space of the complex by an additional 19 000m².
The development is striving towards a 4-Star rating by the Green Building Council of South Africa, and as such, the HVAC solution supplied has to be energy efficient and economic.
Phase 3 consists of semi basement parking, stores and retail space; ground floor parking and retail space; the Woolworths extension and the roof plant rooms.
The HVAC solution being installed by IES comprises a Direct Expansion (DX) system with 40mm double-skinned air cooled packaged units equipped with on/off compressors, R410A refrigerant, reverse cycle heating and Electronic Controlled plug evaporator fans serving the centre.
Some areas are conditioned by means of DX inverter driven hide away units, while filtered fresh air is introduced into the bathroom space by in-line ducted fans in addition to mechanical ventilation systems. The basement level parking is well ventilated by natural air and axial mounted fans will be used to mechanically ventilate the various store rooms.
IES was also the HVAC contractor for the previous phase, Phase 2, which was completed in 2010. “We’re proud to be associated with this project as well as the professional team involved, and look forward to successfully completing and handing over to the client in January 2017,” said Chris Braund, Director of IES.
