SEW-EURODRIVE’s Durban branch supports industrial production across KZN

SEW-EURODRIVE’s Durban branch plays an important role in supporting KwaZulu-Natal’s diverse industrial base, combining fast technical response, strong local stockholding and application expertise to help customers maintain production continuity. According to Cliffton Bridge, SEW-EURODRIVE’s KZN Branch Manager, the scale of the province and the urgency of many industrial operations make local support essential.

“KZN is a vast region and having operations here is strategically vital to support the urgent needs of industry,” Bridge says. “Customers often require immediate assistance with supply and service, and being able to respond locally helps prevent costly downtime.”

Demand for SEW-EURODRIVE technology across the province remains strong, particularly from OEMs, the food and beverage sector and broader manufacturing industries where reliable drive systems are critical to continuous production environments.

“Our OEM, food and beverage and manufacturing customers currently represent our highest demand,” he explains. “We are also seeing a growing number of heavy and light industrial conveying applications being upgraded to more energy-efficient systems ranging from our standard IE3 motors to more advanced technologies such as SEW-EURODRIVE’s MOVIGEAR solutions.”

Operational reliability is another key focus for customers with many operations increasingly prioritising predictive maintenance and proactive equipment management.

“Planned and predictive maintenance is a conversation that is coming up regularly in KZN,” Bridge says. “Through on-site surveys we can identify potential issues early and help prevent premature equipment failures, protecting production uptime.”

Customers are also placing greater emphasis on local availability of equipment and components to reduce operational risk.

“Stockholding and faster delivery times are increasingly being requested from SEW-EURODRIVE Durban,” Bridge notes. “Customers want the confidence that critical equipment and components are available locally so they can reduce their own spares holdings while still having reliable support when needed.”

To support these requirements, the SEW-EURODRIVE Durban facility maintains strong stock availability and local assembly capability for a range of drive solutions.

The branch also assembles several gearbox configurations locally to enable rapid response to customer requirements.

“We assemble our R inline, F parallel-shaft, K bevel and S worm gear units locally, together with motors,” Bridge says. “This range covers many industrial applications and allows us to provide quick replacement or upgrade solutions.”

Rapid service support remains a key differentiator for the Durban branch, supported by a dedicated technical team operating across the province.

“We have technical representatives covering key areas including KZN Inland, the South Coast, Durban Metro and the North Coast,” Bridge explains. “Our team also provides 24-hour support for operations running continuous processes, allowing us to assist with repairs or replacement units whenever customers need it.”

Looking ahead, Bridge believes energy efficiency will drive further equipment upgrades as companies seek to reduce operating costs.

“Many OEM, food and beverage and manufacturing operations are under pressure to reduce energy consumption,” he says. “By upgrading older equipment to modern technologies such as our IE3 motors and IE5 MOVIGEAR solutions, companies can achieve energy savings of up to 40% while improving reliability and performance.”

Through its local technical expertise, stock availability and responsive service model, SEW-EURODRIVE’s Durban branch continues to support KwaZulu-Natal’s industries with efficient drive technology solutions designed to keep production moving.
