Municipal engineers and technicians set to meet next month

THE Institute of Municipal Engineering of Southern Africa (IMESA) urges delegates to book now to secure standard rates for its annual conference and exhibition, taking place in East London from 29-31 October 2025.

This annual event, now in its 88th year, has evolved into one of the most important gatherings for the engineering profession. In 2024, more than 750 national and international delegates (excluding exhibitors) convened to learn, share knowledge and network.

This year, the IMESA Conference and Exhibition is being held under the theme “Sustainable Engineering Solutions”, reflecting the global imperative to balance economic growth with environmental stewardship and social equity in the development of infrastructure. In South Africa, where rapid urbanisation, water scarcity and energy challenges are pressing issues, sustainable engineering solutions are especially critical to enhance resilience, reduce environmental impact and promote inclusive development. “Sustainable municipal engineering has a vital role to play in building future-ready South African cities and towns that are environmentally responsible, economically viable and socially just,” states IMESA president Geoff Tooley.

He notes that this year’s IMESA Conference and Exhibition will not only showcase practical examples of sustainable design and innovation but also foster collaboration across sectors to ensure that engineering solutions serve both people and the planet. “This is a not-to-be-missed opportunity to learn from experts and gain insights into the latest developments and innovations in our field,” Tooley stresses.

Engineers and municipal technical staff are urged to register before 13 October 2025, when the rates for this year’s IMESA Conference and Exhibition will go up to the last-minute registration fee.
